An Patriotic Design and Familiar Emblem

The new design incorporates a patriotic colour scheme to represent the Union Flag and will be applied on locomotives, at terminals, and across its website and app.

Notably, the logo is the well-known twin-arrow logo currently used by the national rail network and first created in the 1960s for British Rail.

A Rollout Plan

The introduction of the new look, which was designed by the department, is scheduled to take place gradually.

Commuters are scheduled to begin spotting the freshly-liveried services throughout the national network from the coming spring.

During the month of December, the visuals will be displayed at major railway stations, such as London Bridge.

A Journey to Nationalisation

The Railways Bill, which will allow the formation of Great British Railways, is presently progressing through the House of Commons.

The administration has stated it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "owned by the public, delivering for the public, not for private shareholders."

The new body will consolidate the running of passenger trains and infrastructure under a single organisation.

The department has said it will combine seventeen separate bodies and "reduce the problematic bureaucracy and lack of accountability that hinders the railways."

Digital Services and Current Ownership

The rollout of Great British Railways will also include a dedicated app, which will allow customers to see timetables and purchase journeys absent booking fees.

Accessibility travellers will also be able to use the app to arrange support.

Multiple operators had earlier been taken into public control under the previous administration, including TPE.

There are currently 7 train operators now in public hands, covering about a one-third of passenger trips.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with further franchises likely to be added in the coming years.

Official and Sector Comments

"This is not simply a paint job," commented the relevant minister. It symbolises "a new railway, leaving behind the issues of the past and focused completely on offering a genuine service for the public."

Industry leaders have acknowledged the government's commitment to improving services.

"The industry will carry on to cooperate with relevant bodies to ensure a smooth transition to Great British Railways," a representative added.
