England's Head Coach Asserts Top Talents Don't Always Make Up the Strongest Team

Thomas Tuchel has stated that assembling the most talented players is no assurance of building the most effective team unit. Tuchel suggested that even if the Real Madrid midfielder had returned to peak fitness following his shoulder problem, he might still have missed out from the latest England squad.

Focus on Team Spirit

England's head coach further revealed that the Arsenal winger's recall may not have happened if his teammate the injured winger remained fit. Tuchel has placed significant emphasis on squad unity with his choices for the forthcoming friendly against Wales and World Cup qualifier in Latvia.

"We're building the strongest squad," said the England boss, who questioned the traditional thinking that championship teams typically choose their top attacking players.

Proven Success

Tuchel pointed to the excellent atmosphere during last month's campaign where the national team beat Andorra and excelled against Serbia without Bellingham. Tuchel observed no reason to alter the squad chemistry which delivered such positive results.

  • Bellingham left out despite club comeback
  • Foden not included despite improved form
  • Grealish additionally missed out

Physical Condition Factors

While Tuchel partially attributed Bellingham's absence due to physical condition, he recognized that the player wanted to be included when they spoke. Tuchel had earlier apologized to Bellingham for remarks about his on-field conduct.

"Would you agree that attitude on the bench, commitment in sessions, and team togetherness allows the starting eleven to perform to their potential?" he questioned.

Squad Selection Justification

Tuchel emphasized that his decisions weren't individual against any player but rather rewarded those who had delivered in the last international break.

"What would be justify dropping them while remaining authentic with my statements?" Tuchel asked.

Necessary Adjustments

The sole alteration in selection proved necessary with injured Noni Madueke being replaced by the returning Saka. Tuchel clarified that even Saka might have missed out if Madueke stayed healthy.

Other absentees included Chelsea's attacking midfielder, who continues affected by injury problems. With only two additional gatherings before the World Cup, opportunities are diminishing for some players to prove themselves.

World Cup Scheduling Concerns

The manager revealed his preference for national team matches to begin at later times due to heat concerns across the host nations. He acknowledged this might cause viewing difficulties for English fans but maintained athlete protection must come first.

"I know supporters won't be happy but for the team it's better with later kickoffs," he stated. "Our athletes make the sport and we have to protect them."
