Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts across the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, public figures do not make a difference whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both right and leftwing contenders over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and explaining she understood during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was opposing her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will do whatever she can to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Celebrity Views
Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact public figures have over the public choices was emphasized by the outcome.
“This upcoming term feels different,” noted the actress regarding his leadership. “Since he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
The actor is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a interview session for the project in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence aimed to shift frustration about the issue to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a allusion to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
The actor, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in Die, My Love. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence said that she did relate to aspects of her role’s experience after the delivery of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern for my son,” she said, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also mentioned regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
