Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a hero that is literally a piece of poop attempting to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: just use a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, battle mini-bosses and unlock a market to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your actions precisely, since one error means restarting the level. Leap on bubbles to hurl the poop upward, navigate disappearing ledges, and touch switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins and use them on more difficult game content where things ramps up.

Visually, the demo shows off vibrant level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The retro visual style with shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of previous releases where you are a dung character, gaming frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme appears a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on Steam on November 19.
